From New Jersey to Texas, Shakur Stevenson has always been a fighter with a purpose. Keep reading to find out how he finds motivation close to home.

Where it All Began

“You know the main thing that we’re fighting for is our family” - Shakur Stevenson.

In 1997 in Newark, New Jersey, the Stevenson family welcomed their first son. The first of nine children, Shakur Stevenson was born into something bigger than himself. A family rooted in loyalty, sacrifice and belief. Long before the world knew his name, those closest to him were building him up.

Now, when you hear his name, you might think of the belts, the fame, the unbeaten record. But before all of that, the first people in his corner were his family. His love for boxing was passed down through his grandad, Wali Moses. We hear their shared passion for the sport in our campaign film, as Wali tells Shakur over the phone, “The first time I saw you put on the boxing gloves, it was like a gift from God.”

Guided by Wali, Shakur would spend hours in the ring, learning not only how to fight, but also studying the greats. On nights alone in the gym, Wali and Shakur would watch how champions like Flloyd Mayweather and Andre Ward moved, how they blocked and how they found their perfect moment to strike. Those were the lessons that shaped the fighter the world knows today.

Where He Is Today

Following on from a decade of work, Shakur’s professional career is a study in exceptional fighting. Becoming a four-division world champion in January 2026, his name was added to a list of what can only be described as fighting legends, and he now sits amongst the likes of Flloyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

With his family’s belief and sacrifice behind him, Shakur also became the highest-medalling male boxer for the US at the Olympic Games since his idol Andre Ward won gold in 2004. The same idol who eventually played a bigger part in Shakur’s story, when he became his manager in 2016 and continued to stand by him throughout his career.

25 fights, 25 wins, unbeaten. And through it all, the constant support and love of those around him. The bonds made between Shakur and his family run deep. So deep, that when he made the 1,617 mile move from Newark, New Jersey to Houston, Texas, his entire family followed. Theirs is a connection that’s hard to put into words, which is why we wanted to show it through our campaign film.

It was always right that the entire Stevenson family be involved in this campaign, because as much as it’s about Shakur, it’s about them, too. Their devotion and passion for him are what weave his story together, so it made sense to also tell their story.

Watch the story in the film above, directed by Anthony Crooke.

Shakur’s elite defence and near-flawless timing in the ring make him a fighter to admire, but it’s the values he was built on that make him the perfect fit for Montirex.

Belief. Graft. Unity. The same values that shaped Shakur from the start are the ones Montirex was founded on and still stands for today. With Shakur being one of today’s most technically brilliant fighters, his partnership with Montirex is just one example of our commitment to working with world-class athletes who sit at the intersection of performance, culture and lifestyle.
